I read Siew Yieng blog today about boy or girl. I truely agree with what she said. However I also have my own opinion to share with.
To be frank I'm one of those who have pressure to conceive a boy as an offspring for my hubby family(as he is the only son). I strongly believes that every mother especially chinese will feel that son bring you pride as you be able to deliver an offspring that will continue carry the surname of your husband family. Thus most of the traditional mom will tend to love son more. I believe same with my mom and mom-in-law. However when time past they tend to feel that daughter are better then son as they can share sadness and laughter with them. Whereas they will felt lost when their son married as most sons tend to be more attached to their wife. Hey.. After all they are the one that will take care and company your son and produces next generation. Why not think more positively and appreciate them more?
Nowaday everywhere you could hear the familiar conversation said "daughter are better then son.." and "o.. actually girl or boy doesn't matter to us". Are those from bottom of your heart? As for me girl and boy are not the same even though I myself might had uttered the same words before. After all we live in the world full of lies. :p I must say that I am happy that my mother start to appreciate her daughter more nowaday however at the same time I felt pity that my hubby seem to lose his parent love more and more since married with me. I had poor relationship with his parent as an result of my naive and rebellious. I would advice those who plan to marry not to stay with eldest if you are not mature enough to handle the relationship with eldest. Especially your husband family still have sibling staying together things will become more complicated.
The daughter will tend to show their love toward parent and more daring and willing to communicate with them. However boy mostly are cool and don't show their love. They don't talk much but will make decision on very matters. Inevitable fact that man is the one carry the family surname. In common chinese family, son will be trained to become a macho man - "nan zi han ta chang fu yu ley bu chin tang" (mean macho man will not cry easily) and guy must not be talking too much and must carry the financial burden.
After so many bla bla.. I think boy and girl are different. Both are important and cannot replace each other. For those with both congratulation you should appreciate what you have. For those who don't if you think you would like to have both pray hard like me whereas those don't mind you are really so blissful with closed fingers to accept what god had given to you.
